In happened in one of those
moments when all is well, and you don’t expect anything to go wrong.
I moved to the edge and looked down.
My daughter’s back was to me. I stepped in (and down), planning to land my left
foot on the ledge where they sat. It turned out to be much further down than I
thought. I lost my balance and fell—right onto my daughter’s back.
After my embarrassing and potentially dangerous moment (I’m sure we
could have won big on America’s Funniest Videos) the Lord led me to this in Sarah
Young’s Jesus Calling: “I am always before you as well as alongside
you. The One who goes ahead of you, opening up the way, is the same One who
stays close and never lets go of your hand.” ~Jesus
Then He led me to these
Scriptures:
- Don’t panic. I’m with you. There’s no need to fear for I’m your God. I’ll give you strength. I’ll help you. I’ll hold you steady, keep a firm grip on you. (Isaiah 41:10 MSG)
- The Lord directs the
steps of the godly. He delights in
every detail of their lives. Though they stumble, they will never fall,
for the Lord holds them by the hand. (Psalm 37:23-24
NLT)
- A man’s mind
plans his way [as he journeys through life], but the Lord directs his steps and establishes
them. (Proverbs
16:9 AMP)
If my daughter had not been sitting there to stop
and cushion my fall, the results could have been disastrous. But God
protected us both. Neither one of us got hurt that day. Stunned but not hurt.
God tells us not to fear. He gives His angels
charge over us. He is our safety net. He promises to hold our hand with a firm
grip. He also lights our path and establishes our steps.
As you journey
through this life, take hold of God’s hand and trust Him to lead and guide you.
Just be alert and watch your step.
