Whether you eat
or drink, live your life in a way
that glorifies
and honors God.
1 Corinthians
10:31 TPT
“What is your goal for the New Year?” the girl was asked.
“To glorify God,” she answered quickly.
“And how exactly do you plan to do that?”
The girl captured her lower lip with her teeth
and thought for a minute. “Well … I’ll start by not skipping church so much.
I’ll read my Bible more. Maybe I’ll even volunteer at a homeless shelter or go
on a mission trip. That will work, right?”
Unfortunately, this girl planned to work her way
into God’s good graces.
Too many Christian have the idea that doing
things for God—especially what we consider big things—is what God
expects from us.
The truth is God wants everything we do and say
to bring Him glory. To point others to Him. Romans 12:1 in the Message
translation says it best:
So here’s what I
want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your
sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before
God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can
do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it
without even thinking.
Don’t wait to do big things for the Lord. Invite
Him into every moment of every day. Come to Him as a little child with excitement and expectancy. Live your life in a way that glorifies and
honors Him.
