Pay Attention to the Signs

By Andrea Merrell

You can enter God’s Kingdom only through the narrow gate.
The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide
for the many who choose that way.
But the gateway to life is very narrow and the road is difficult,
and only a few ever find it.
 Matthew 7:13-14 NLT

It’s been said that the road to hell is paved with good intentions. The Bible says that road is broad and the gate wide for those who choose that route.

It’s also been said that the road to heaven is paved with effort and good moral judgement. The Bible tells us that road is difficult and the gate very narrow. The good news is God has given us His Word as our road map for this arduous journey, and we need to pay close attention to the signs along the way:

Reduce Speed: Slow down and be patient. Watch for the posted speed limit. Don’t run ahead of the Lord. He has everything under control.

Construction Zone: Again, slow down. Pay attention to the work God is doing in you.

Yield: Follow the leading of the Holy Spirit. Don’t be determined to make your own plans. Yield to the Spirit and allow Him to show you the better way.

One Way: There is only one way ... God's way. Don't try to go against the traffic or try to find another.

Dead-end: This means don’t go in this direction. You might get into a situation where there’s no way out.

Do Not Enter: This is dangerous territory. Stay away. Pay attention to the red flags.

Stop: This means, well … stop. Stop what you’re doing and listen for His leading. Insanity is doing the same things over and over and expecting different results.

Detour: There are no shortcuts to heaven, but sometimes we run into a detour as God pulls us aside to teach us something. But don’t worry. When you’re obedient, blessings will follow, and you’ll still get to your destination.
