So
now we see that there are many differing parts
and functions, but one body. It
would be wrong
for the eye to say to the hand, “I don’t need you,”
and equally
wrong if the head said to the foot,
“I don’t need you.” In fact, the
weaker our parts,
the more vital and essential they are.
1 Corinthians
12:20-22 TPT
In all the craziness that’s going on around us, terms
such as social distancing, pandemic, and quarantine are plastered on the news
and social media. But the one we’re hearing most often at this point is essential.
Only people or businesses that are absolutely
necessary or extremely important can continue doing business as usual. These
include (but are not limited to) medical personnel, emergency personnel, law
enforcement, grocery stores, pharmacies, and gas stations. The rest of us who
are considered non-essential are to remain in our homes, practice good hygiene,
and participate in social distancing.
For those of us who are non-essential, does that
make us unnecessary or unimportant?
The truth is in God’s kingdom, we are all
essential. Each member makes up the complete body of Christ, all with a
different function. The Bible says, the weaker our parts, the more vital
and essential they are. We are necessary, now more than ever. Our
job is to pray, support, and encourage others. To follow the mandates of our
leaders. To shine the light of Christ into a dark and desperate world. To remain
positive in a negative, fearful society. To put our faith into action. To offer
hope.
No matter where you are—on the front lines or safe
within the confines of your home—we are all essential in God’s eyes.
Are you doing your part?
