Who Is Your Source?

By Andrea Merrell

How many Christians do you know who continually rehearse their problems? They run from one person to another and regale them with stories of their failing marriage, rebellious kids, or chronic illness. They talk about their woes to everyone who will listen. Everyone, that is, except the one person who has the solution to every problem—God.

A pastor, trusted friend, or trained counselor can be a good sounding board. They can help us look at our problems objectively and may even offer sound advice. But if they don’t ultimately send us back to the source—God and His Word—what have we really gained?

God is our healer, provider, and comforter. He is our wisdom, our strength, and our peace. He is the giver of all good gifts and is ready to work miracles in the lives of those who believe. He is the ultimate source of anything we could ever want or need.

The opinions and sympathy of others will only get us so far. As the old hymn says, “Take it to the Lord in prayer.” When we take our burdens to the Lord and leave them there, He will provide the answers and solutions we need.

That’s a promise.
