What Are You Worth?

By Andrea Merrell

Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength. The second is equally important: Love your neighbor as yourself. No other commandment is greater than these. Mark 12:30-31 NLT

“I’m a loser-magnet,” the girl said as defeat colored every word. “I Jump from one lousy relationship to another, but in the end, nobody can stand me. I can’t even stand myself.”

Because this girl had grown up emotionally unhealthy, she consistently made bad choices, feeling she deserved nothing better. One writer says that when we don’t value ourselves, we will only attract others who don’t value us.

How we see ourselves, how we feel about ourselves, is more important than we think. The Bible tells us to love our neighbor in the same way we love ourselves. But how can we love others when we can even tolerate self?

Having a healthy perception of who we truly are can only be developed by finding out what God says about us and learning to see ourselves through His eyes.

Many struggle to find their self-worth through other people, money, material possessions, and even worldly pleasures. But as a redeemed child of God, our value is found in Him alone. And He sees us as someone worth dying for.

What are you worth? In God’s eyes, you are precious and priceless.
