No one is
good—except God alone.
Luke 18:19 NIV
The woman stared
at him, skepticism written all over her face. “That’s debatable, she said. He
certainly hasn’t done much for me lately.”
This woman was
measuring the goodness of God according to how well things were going in her
life—or rather by the fact that they weren’t going well at all.
My pastor said
recently that we can never measure God’s goodness any other way than by the
fact that He sacrificed His only Son on the cross—for us.
The truth is God
is good. Period. All the time. No exceptions. His goodness is never dependent
on what we think, see, hear, say, feel, assume, or experience. And it can never
be measured by expectations or disappointments.
First John 4:8
tells us that if we don’t love, we don’t know God, for God is love
(NKJV). God doesn’t just love—He is love in all its fulness. He is also
righteous, just, kind, and faithful. He saves, forgives, heals, delivers,
provides, comforts, and protects according to His divine mercy. His goodness is
like His peace—beyond human understanding and comprehension.
Yes, my friend,
God is good—all the time.
