The Jealousy Trap

 By Andrea Merrell

A peaceful heart leads to a healthy body;
    jealousy is like cancer in the bones.

Proverbs 14:30 NLT

When the award was presented, one woman at the table immediately began to point out all the faults of the recipient. Jealousy reared it’s ugly head as she stated in disgust, “That should have been mine!”

When we’re insecure in who we are—uncomfortable in our own skin—it’s difficult to give genuine compliments and words of praise. Celebrate the success of others. Pray for them as they continue to achieve their goals and dreams.

Jealousy is a green-eyed monster. The Bible says it's like a cancer. It eats away at our mental, emotional, spiritual, and even physical health. It’s all-consuming, leading to resentment while promoting self. Plus, it causes chaos. For wherever there is jealousy and selfish ambition, there you will find disorder and evil of every kind (James 3:16 NLT).

We have no reason to compete with one another. God made us unique. Special. One of a kind. One writer says there is no one as good at being you as you.

Your true identify and self-worth is found in Christ. Don’t get caught in the jealousy trap.
