There's No Place Like the Cove

By Andrea Merrell

You can be sure that God will take care
of everything you need,
His generosity exceeding even yours
in the glory that pours from Jesus.
Philippians 4:19 MSG

I just returned from three glorious days at the Billy Graham Training Center—the Cove. No other place compares. From the moment you drive onto the property, you experience a peace that surrounds and fills you. It’s like entering the holy presence of God.

The grounds are beautiful, the facilities first class, and the staff treats each and every person who visits like royalty. This is truly one of my favorite places, and it was my pleasure to teach a workshop and meet with conferees at our annual Asheville Christian Writers Conference/Writers Boot Camp.

As I was leaving the parking lot at the end of the conference, I made a wide turn, hit a curb, and heard a loud whoosh of air. I rolled slowly down the hill to the guard house where I asked for help and pointed to my flat tire.

The gentleman on duty immediately went into action and put on my spare. When he realized it needed air, he seemed very reluctant to send me on my way to find a nearby gas station with an air hose.

Since it was Sunday, there was no maintenance crew on duty, so the guard radioed the shuttle driver and asked for his help. This kind gentleman—along with another man with a servant’s heart—put air in my tire, prayed with me, then bid me farewell with warm smiles and a blessing.

I had to take it slow and easy on the way down the mountain, but what could have been a disaster and a bad way to end a wonderful weekend, turned into an opportunity to see God’s love in action. As the guard said to me, “If you’re going to have a problem, there’s no better place to have it than at the Cove.”

Once again, God prepared the way before me and provided exactly what I needed.

He will do the same for you. All you have to do is trust Him.
